Decanter Centrifuge, slurry feed pump, and centrifuge VFD control panel

It is best to have the decanter centrifuge and slurry feed pump, along with their control systems, provided by the same manufacturer. The slurry feed pump for the decanter centrifuge must be associated with the centrifuge’s main control cabinet and have interlocking functionality. It should be capable of reducing the slurry feed rate during overload and stopping the operation in case of severe overload.

If the customer intends to use their own feed pumps when purchasing the centrifuges, it is important to gather information about the pump’s motor power, whether it is a fixed-speed or variable-speed pump, and the type of control system used for the pump. It is necessary to arrange for communication between the customer’s electrical engineer and our electrical engineer before placing the order to establish the interlocking functionality of the centrifuge and pump control systems. This ensures smooth system operation and avoids equipment damage due to overload or operational issues caused by the lack of interlocking functionality.

2021.11.18 Decanter Centrifuge

Whenever possible, it is recommended that our company controls the slurry pump for the centrifuge through the provided control cabinet, regardless of whether it is a variable-frequency or fixed-speed control. The task order should clearly specify the pump power and whether it requires variable-frequency control or non-variable-frequency start-stop control.

If the decanter centrifuge is used in conjunction with an oily sludge treatment system, we strongly recommend using a variable frequency centrifuge with three VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives). The three VFDs can adjust the main drive, auxiliary drive, and slurry pump of the centrifuge according to the actual needs, to adapt to different processing requirements. Without using a variable frequency centrifuge with three VFDs, the system operation may be limited, resulting in poor treatment efficiency or operational issues.

GN Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for overseas fish oil processing plant

GN Separation is the branch company of GN Solids Control. Recently, GN Separation is complete and production and commissioning of a 3 phase decanter centrifuge for overseas fish oil processing plant. All the material standard and production process are specially done to suit for the food industry centrifuge applications.

2023.06.08 fish oil 3 phase decanter

The decanter centrifuge model for fish oil separation plant is GNLWS364-VFD. The model is designed for 3-phase separation. The bowl of the decanter centrifuge is 14 inch. And the length and diameter ratio of the decanter centrifuge is up to 4. VFD control panel is equipped for the high speed decanter centrifuge. The operators can adjust bowl speed and conveyor speed based on the material situation and their separation demands. The enclosure of the VFD control panel is container steel for more durable. And hte VFD control panel includes 3 VFD control for the main drive motor, for back drive motor, as well as the VFD control on the feeding pumps.

The manufacturing time of decanter centrifuge is much longer than other separation equipment, like shale shaker, degasser, mud cleaner, etc… As the components of centrifuges are much more complex, and it takes more testing during production and before delivery.

Every decanter centrifuge made by GN Solids Control / GN Separation will be fully inspected and test before delivery from GN factory. Below is the general testing process in GN factory for every centrifuge before delivery.
1. After assembly, the decanter centrifuge must be running at the rated speed without load for at least 4 hours.
2. The decanter centrifuge will further be test with water at rated speed for at least 30 minutes, and the total water test should no less than 2 hours at the factory.

Besides the 14 inch 3 phase separation decanter centrifuge, GN Solids Control makes other small size and bigger size decanter centrifuge and disc centrifuges for various applications. And plus, GN Solids Control makes oil field shale shaker separator and mining industry screen separators.

GN Solids Control System for oil drilling to India Company

GN Solids Control finished a complete a solids control mud system for a drilling company in India. It is a 3-tank mud system plus a separate trip tank and separate pill tank.

The trip tank is equipped with mud agitator and a small size centrifugal trip pump. And plus, there is a radar level gauge equipped on the trip tank for the auto start / stop of the trip pump.

2023.06.15 Solids Control System

There are 2 active tanks and 1 water tank, each tank with usable capacity 250bbl. The #1 active tank is shaker tank, which is holding 2 sets of solids control shale shaker, a 1200GPM vacuum degasser, a desander, and a desilter mud cleaner. As the mud system is designed for offshore rigs, the double deck shale shaker GNZS706 is applied in the system. It is a 6-panel double deck shale shaker with linear motion.

After shale shaker and before desander, desilter separator, there is a 1200GPM vacuum degasser applied in the system. All the mentioned separation equipment are allocated on the shale shaker tank. And there are electrical control panels on the tank top to control all the equipment in the system. 37KW (50hp) centrifugal pumps are used as feeding pump of desander and desilter.

2023.06.15 Solids Control Equipment

The #2 active tank is mixing tank. And plus, there is a 14 inch high speed centrifuge applied in the system. It is a fixed speed decanter centrifuge with high speed for low gravity separation. Vertical slurry pumps are used in the system to feed for the decanter centrifuge. The model of the feed pump is GN50YZ40-10B with 5.5kw explosion proof motor. There are 2 feeding pumps in the system, one for feeding, another one is for back up. A vortex and venturi mixing hopper unit is used in the system for mud mixing. A 37KW (50hp) centrifugal pump is used as mixing pump for the hoppers.

The # 3 mud tank is a 250bbl water tank. There is no separation or mixing equipment used in the water tank. There are pipelines connecting the water tank to all the rest active tank and mixing tank compartment.

Decanter centrifuge and disc centrifuge for oil sludge separation

Decanter centrifuge and disc centrifuge are both widely used in oily sludge separation system. Compared with filter press, centrifuge separation has the advantages of supporting continue separation, and less human being involved in.

Before centrifuge separation, double deck shale shaker is used to remove the big particles and sand, and to reduce the mud weight. The advantage of using a double deck shale shaker in the oil sludge treatment system is that it does not block the screen in the presence of fibrous or coarse particle materials. Customers choose the screen opening or API size of the upper coarse screen and lower fine screen based on the distribution of the incoming materials.

Hydro cyclone is not used in oil sludge treatment systems because the viscosity of the oil sludge material is usually high, and the cyclone separator can easily block. The bottom fine mesh screens of the double-layer shale shaker can replace the separation effect of the cyclone. Compared to cyclone separation, the separation efficiency of shaker screen particles is 100%, and particles larger than the screen aperture will be 100% separated.

Below is a general introduction of decanter centrifuge and disc centrifuge.

Decanter centrifuge is horizontal type centrifugal separator. There are 2 phase decanter centrifuge and 3 phase decanter centrifuge. 2 phase decanter centrifuge is for liquid and solids separation. It can allow solids content till 15% ~ 20%. But the less solids content, the better separation result.

3 phase decanter centrifuge is for oil, water and soil separation. Operators can change the degree of the liquid discharge dam to adjust the clearness of oil and water. The recovered water and oil can be reused in the system. But it is for a general separation, the water is not clean, and the oil is not pure still with soil and water. And the soil cake is not dry.

Disc centrifuge is a kind of vertical centrifuge. It is for 3 phase separation. Disc centrifuge can get relative clean water, and oil, and get dryer soil cakes. But disc centrifuge is easy to be blocked, it must be check and viewed timely. It means it can only allow small soil content before enter into the disc centrifuge. Hence the disc centrifuge is normally used after 2 phase decanter centrifuge or 3 phase decanter centrifuge.

CIPPE in Beijing is the largest exhibition related to oil and gas industry and petroleum field. 2023 Beijing CIPPE was hold from 31 May to 2nd June 6. 2023.05.26 explosive VFD control for decanter centrifuge

Right now, GN Solids Control is working on a 14 inch decanter centrifuge overseas Electrolytic Purification of Copper Application. The model of the 14 inch centrifuge is GNLWS364, compared with the GNLW363D series, GNLWS364 has a bigger bowl length and diameter ratio up to 4. The centrifuge bowl diameter are both 14 inch, but GNLWS364 is longer in order to suit for the specified applications.

Mud Cleaning Package Equipment for slurry separation in New Zealand

GN Solids Control makes various size slurry separation equipment to treat the slurries which is generated from trenchless activities, piling, pipe jacking, super vac activities.

This week, GN Solids Control is working on the assemble and commissioning of a full package slurry separation system. The slurry treatment system is designed and made for a New Zealand client for their super vac excavation slurry. The system is customized with the client’s red color.

2023.05.16 Mud Cleaning System

Below are the major separation equipment used in the slurry equipment:
The first separation equipment: the mining separation screen separation device for coarse separation.
The second separation equipment is the High Frequency Vibrating Screen for fine solids separator.

The 3rd separation equipment is desilter mud cleaner. 4 inch desilter assembly was used for further clarification. The cut point of 4 inch desilter is 27 microns. It means most of the particles above 27 microns will be removed and discharged from the desilter separator, and falls down to the under flow shale shaker.

2023.05.16 Shale Shaker Tank

The 4th separation equipment is high speed decanter centrifuge. The cut point of high speed decanter centrifuge is 2 ~ 5 microns. The slurry enters into decanter centrifuge already treated by the previous screening separator and the desilter mud cleaner, the solids content is lower, and there is no particles bigger than 30 microns. After treatment of decanter centrifuge, most of the fine solids above 2 microns will be removed.

After some circles of above separation, the ulti-fine solids smaller than 2 microns will be more and more. In order to solve the situation, chemical dosing unit will be applied to used together with high speed decanter centrifuge for dewatering treatment. The chemical dosing unit and the decanter centrifuge used together for lower gravity solids separation.

Screw conveyors are used along with the mud system for carrying the solids waste discharged from the system.

Mud agitator for drilling mud system, frac tank, mixing tank

Drilling mud agitator is a popular equipment in various kind of drilling mud system, includes but not limited to oil and gas drilling, water well drilling, Horizontal directional drilling, and other trenchless underground activies.

Drilling mud agitator is designed for stirring drilling fluids and slurries in open tanks. It is to avoid the solids settle down, and ensure the equal mixture of liquid and solids. It is the necessary process to ensure qualified drilling mud to support drilling activities.

GN Solids Control makes various models drilling mud agitator from motor size 3kw to 22kw. Drilling mud agitator is a relative sample design equipment. The major components of an agitator is driven motor, gearbox reducer, agitator shaft, and impeller. The gearbox reducer is connected to driven motor. The impeller / impellers are installed to rotating shaft, the shaft is connected to gearbox reducer output shaft and rotated with it.

There are 2 kinds of gearbox reducer which are used for drilling mud agitator.
The most popular gearbox reducer is worm gearbox. It is more widely used, as the economic cost.
Another kind of gearbox is helical bevel. It is the heavy duty gearbox with bigger efficiency and reliable performance. And the maintenance is relative easier.

The agitator motor size, shaft length and impeller diameter, impeller quality should be caculated based on below information:
1. The type of the tank: it is rectangular tank or cylindrical tank.
2. The size of the mud tank: Length, width and height of the tank
3. How many agitators are used in the mud tank?
4. The frequency of the driven motor: it is 50 hz or 60hz.
5. The density of the mud. For heavy mud, the agitator size will be bigger size than light mud. Mud agitators for actives tanks may be bigger in size, or more in quality than suction tank and reserve tanks.

3. Replacement shaker screen. Shale shaker is the basic separation equipment for all kinds of drilling activies, Shaker screen is a major consumable parts of shale shaker especially on oil and gas drilling field. A oil and gas solids control shale shaker need 3 pcs ~ 6 pcs screens per shaker model. There will be 1 shale shaker ~ 4 shale shakers per the size of drilling mud system. In Oil and gas drilling mud system, the screens must be changed every a few days. In some hard drilling section, even every 2 or 3 days. So replacement is a continues and big cost for drilling activities.
