A type of cuttings dryer is vertical cuttings dryer (short as VCD). It is also called as vortex centrifuge, or vertical centrifuge. The GN Vertical Cutting Dryer uses centrifugal force to dry drilled solids in oil or synthetic base fluids. A stainless steel screen bowl traps “wet” solids and accelerates them up 900RPM with G force to 420G.
The vertical cuttings dryer is mainly designed to treat oil based mud and oil based cuttings. After vertical cuttings dryer, the oil on the cuttings can be reduced to 3% ~ 5%.
Recently, some clients inquires GN Solids Control to ask for vertical cuttings dryer to treat the solids from decanter centrifuge. In fact, vertical cuttings dryer is not recommended to treat the solids discharge from centrifuge separators. As all centrifuges are for fine solids separation. The solids enter into centrifuge much with less 15% solids content. And the max. Particle size should be smaller than 2mm. While the screen basket of vertical cuttings dryer screen opening is 0.5mm or 0.35mm.There are fewer solids can be removed from centrifuge discharged solids.

GN High G Force Drying shaker is design for primary solids control and drying the cuttings from the primary solids control equipments, recover silts and ultra-fine sands, provide solids in a consistently stackable and conveyable form and requires no expensive chemicals or polymers. GN high G drying Shaker with Adjustable G force Up to 8.0 G. It can be used for both OBM and WBM cuttings. While used for OBM treatment, the oil on the cuttings (OOC) can be be lower as vertical cuttings dryer. But its cost is much lower than vertical cuttings dryer.
