Oil Drilling Rig Solids Control Equipment for Russia market

This week, GN Solids Control delivered two sets of drilling mud solids control was dispatch to a Russia client. The equipment will be used for projects in Russia to recover drilling fluid from oil and gas drilling activities. Considering the weather, the equipment and all components are designed for lower temperature areas.

Drilling mud solids control equipment together with drilling cuttings waste management system is an important closed-loop mud system, it can recover more valuable drilling fluid and reduce waste discharge. Reduce drilling costs and protect the environment.

GN Solids control can not only provide single processing equipment, but also provide full package drilling cuttings processing systems with turn-key solution, including different types of equipment. Vertical drilling cuttings dryer and decanter centrifuge are the key equipment of drilling cuttings treatment system.

For oil based drilling cuttings, the vertical drying device is an ideal equipment for separating drilling fluid and cuttings. The drying device receives cuttings discharged from the solid control shale shaker and runs at a speed of 900 rpm to effectively reduce the oil on the cuttings to 3% ~ 5% or less. We use a high hardness scraper to push the separated cuttings off the screen. The high quality scraper ensures the stable performance of the VG dryer and low maintenance cost.

Fine particles flow out of the vertical cuttings dryer through the screen hole and enter the buffer tank. The waste decanter centrifuge is used for further separation and treatment of the effluent from the dryer. We recommend the use of ultra-wear-resistant NEMO pump to transport the mud from the buffer tank to the centrifuge for fine particle separation. The centrifuge operates at a speed of 3200 rpm to produce a separation coefficient of 2062g, under which fine particles the size of 2 microns will be removed. After being treated by decanter centrifuge, the drilling fluid can be reused.

Mud Gas Separator for solids control equipment

Mud Gas Separator is a safety device for oil and gas drilling mud system. It is not always used during running. But it is a must be equipment for safety operation. GN Solids Control makes 40 inch mud gas separation and 42 inch mud gas separation.

Application & Features of GN Mud Gas Separator


GN Mud Gas Separator is located after BOP choke manifolds, and before the drilling mud solids control system. Mud gas separation is normally uased after the BOP and choke manifolds, in order to continue drilling in underbalanced conditions where dramatic pressure surges are normal. The mud gas separation is always used comply with an igniter device to fire the harmful gas. GN Solids Control makes automatic igniter device as well.

The working principle of GN Mud Gas Separator
In dangerous “Kick” conditions, the mud gas separator allows operators to control and reuse the drilling fluid by removing most percentage of gas. The gas-cut drilling mud enters the flow line of the mud gas separator, where it hits a series of baffle plates. These baffles provide the surface area used to decompose the gas cutting mud. The mud is sent to the solids control shale shaker for further treatment, while the separated gas travels to the vent line at the top of the mud gas separator to maintain a safe distance from the rig and rig personnel. And flow to an igniter to fire the harmful gas at the remote area. The pipelines between mud gas separator and igniter device can up to max. 50 meters.

Basic Parameters of Mud Gas Separator

ViST screen vacuum unit for shale shaker for drilling mud recycling

Mostly GN ViST screen vacuum unit is used together with GN shale shakers, and other shaker brands with utilizing flat replacement shaker screens.

Some customers are wondering if the ViST screen vacuum unit can be used together with Pyramid screens. They contacted GN Solids Control to ask about the performance of the ViST screen vacuum unit when used with Pyramid style shaker screens, as they seemed to think there would be a reduction in efficiency due to the design of the PMD screen. They want to know did other people use the ViST screen vacuum system with PMD screens and what was the outcome?

The reply from GN Solids Control about this question is that, the ViST screen vacuum unit can only be used for flat screens. It cannot be used for pyramid shaker screens.

There is a catch pan under screen deck to connect shakers with ViST unit. Because the ViST screen vacuum unit catch pan is only installed below the last screen of shaker decks. So for people prefer the story of pyramid screens, they can use a flat screen on the last end of shaker deck. They can use PMD screens on the other screen decks.

Oily sludge treatment

This week, GN Solids Control finished the manufacture of a full package of oily sludge treatment system for the tank bottom oily waste treatment. The system will be shipped to China domestic clients soon in Guangzhou.

The oily sludge treatment system includes the following modules:
1) The heating and pre-mixing tank.

After being treated by GN oily sludge treatment system, the oil content in cuttings (OOC) can be controlled within 3%, the total water solid content in the recovered oil can be controlled to less than 3%, and the oil content in the recovered water can be less than 3%, which can greatly reduce the oil content of the solid phase. Reducing the total amount of materials to be treated also provides the maximum reduction guarantee for the later biodegradation, thermal desorption and other processes, and improves the treatment efficiency of oily sludge.

300 m³ slurry separation plant for piling and micro tunneling

GN Solids Control can offer standard design desanding plant and customized desanding plant for Bored Pile Slurry desanding treatment, TBM slurry treatment, HDD (trenchless), as well as water well drilling etc. GN Solids Control makes desanding treatment plant with treating capacity varying from 200GPM to 1000GPM. GN Solids Control can also make big capacity desanding treatment plant per client’s request, like 300 m³ slurry separation plant or more to suit for different job site condition.

Below is a customized proposal GN Solids Control offered for a 300 m³ slurry separation plant application for bore piling and micro tunneling projects.

There are 2 separation equipment in the 300 m³ slurry separation treatment plant:
1) 1 × double deck shale shaker with totally 6 screen panels for solids removal. Big opening metal screens (7mm + 3mm) are used in the double deck shaker for big sand removal. The metal frame screens for bore piling and micro tunneling shale shaker is also for longer servicing time. The 3 pcs upper deck screen with area of 2.03 m2.
2) 1 × desander cleaner, combined with a shale shaker and 2 each 12 inch desander cones for removing the solids.
3) A 75kw centrifugal pump is used to feed for the desander cleaner. The pump is located in tank slope for compact design.
4) A set of mud tank (L 6 × W 2.2×H 2.15 m) will hold all the quoted equipment. The tank is c/w pipelines, walkways, ladders, guardrails, valves, sand gate etc…
5) Lighting system and electrical control system for all quoted items are included in the proposal for turn-key solution.

The shale shaker and desander cleaner can be allocated on a lifting frame with the same dimension of the underneath mud tank for fast movement. The shale shaker and desander cleaner will be fixed to the underneath mud tank by fast connectors.

Pipe connections of sludge and solids vacuum transfer pump

Many customers are interested in the sludge and solids vacuum transfer pump that GN Solids Control manufactures. They can review the specification as provided on GN Solids Control website. And also, they can contact GN Solids Control sales managers to get information.

As it is high 100% air driven pump with big vacuum pressure, many customer may have some questions about the pipeline connections of the vacuum sludge transfer pump. They may wonder: What is the maximum pressure head (height) that GN made sludge and solids vacuum transfer pump can suck from? Clients may actually look for a vacuum pump that can lift sludge and slurry from at least 50m and discharge 1000m. They wonder if GN Solids Control has a model that meets this requirement? If yes, they could want to get more supporting technical specification.

The big size sludge and solids vacuum transfer pump GNSP-40B can meet the requested applications. The maximum vacuum pressure is 85Kpa that means, the maximum suction depth is 8.5 meters for water.

And the head or lift of the pump for water is 80 meters. But if horizontally, the suction length is up to 50meters and the discharge distance is up 1000.

Drilling cuttings Treatment Equipment for China Oilfield

Drilling cuttings drying system is the main part of closed-loop system for drilling fluid treatment. It recovers as much drilling fluid as possible by processing drilling cuttings with high humidity. This week, GN Solid Control completed the manufacture of two sets of vertical cuttings drying system. The cuttings drying system will soon be shipped to customers in China domestic market.

Vertical cuttings drying system is mostly used to treat oil base mud and oil base mud drilling cuttings. The whole system is mainly composed of cuttings drying module and fine particle removal module. Each module has a key core separation device to treat the drill cuttings.

1) Vertical Cuttings drying module

Vertical cuttings dryer is the key equipment of cuttings drying module. Usually, drill cuttings are fed into the drill cuttings drying device by vacuum pump or screw conveyer. Under the action of centrifugal force, the oil will be separated from the drilling cuttings, goes through the screen opening of screen basket, and enter the collecting tank. Regarding the opening sizes of the drying screen, GN Solids Control offers 3 sizes for option: 250 microns, 350 misrcons and 500 microns, which can be used to dry cuttings of different sizes. GN Solids Control advanced design vertical cuttings dryer is equipped with a flushing system and an air knife system for cleaning the mud collecting trough and screen to avoid blockage.

2) Fine Particle Removal Module
High speed decanter centrifuge is the key equipment of this module. The liquid effluent discharged by the dryer will be pumped to a high speed decanter centrifuge for further treatment to remove fine particles in drilling fluid. In order to ensure the performance of centrifuge, the high-speed operation, the protection of vulnerable parts and the use of materials are considered in the manufacturing process of crown solid control. Long time operation and less maintenance ensure the efficiency and economic benefits of the equipment.

In the cuttings drying system, mud tanks are used to hold equipment and collect and store drilling fluids. Cuttings discharged from the drying device and centrifuge into the dryer can be conveyed through the screw conveyor device, which is widely used to transport solid materials.

How to make composite material shale shaker screens

GN Solids Control makes high quality composite material replacement shaker screen for most of the popular shale shaker models.

Many customers do not know the difference of composite material screen, so they do not why the composite screen performance and lifetime is better than the traditional metal frame screens. They are wondering about the manufacturing process of composite screen. They want to understand and know more exactly what’s involved in making the composite screens so they better positioned to make decision about purchasing.

Below is some basic information on what’s involved in the process of composite material shaker screen manufacturing. It is just a high level overview of the operation to help clients understand a little more about composite screens.

What is the A to Z process to make one screen? (i.e. which machine is used first in the process, what does it do, what machine is used next, what does it do……. And so on)?

The main process for making composite material shaker screen include following steps:
Step A: Metal or steel cutting and Metal frame welding by robot and machine.
Step B: Plastic mixing, heating and cuttings ( It’s also done by GN Solids Control) It’s automatic production to produce the required plasitic ball.
Step C: Put the metal frame into the mould and use the plastic injection machine to do the injection to make composite frame.
Step D: Cut the wiremesh into correct size by wiremesh cuttings machine which is original in rolls.
Step E: Heat Press the wiremesh to the composite frame. The key is tension of the wiremsh. GN Solids Control owns patent technology for the pretension treatment of shaker screen making.
Step F: Cutting the edge of the screen to cut off the redundant wiremesh at the edge.
Step G: If the screen is equipped with rubber, GN Solids Control workers will glue the rubber on screen frames.

Cuttings dryer and decanter centrifuge for drilling waste management

Cuttings dryer (Vertical cuttings dryer and high G force cuttings dryer) and decanter centrifuge is the major equipment for drilling waste management separation. Cuttings dryer machine is used to remove the big sizes solids from the drill cuttings. Decanter centrifuge is used after cuttings dryer to treat the liquid recovered from cuttings dryer.

Below is the major models cuttings dryer and decanter centrifuge supplied by GN Solids Control for oil and gas drilling field:

1) GN Vertical Cuttings dryer: Model # GNCD930E. It is designed to treat oil based mud and cuttings. In some cases, it can also be used to treat water based mud. While treating oil based mud, it can reduce OOC to ≤5. And per different jobsite reports, less than 5% OOC is achievable.

2) GN high G force cuttings dryer. It is a kind of shale shaker with high G force to treat water based mud and cuttings.

3) GN High Configuration high speed Decanter Centrifuges. Model GNLW363C. GN Solids Control does offer fixed speed control, variable frequency control, and full hydraulic drive for optional for the popular size 14 inch decanter centrifuge.

4) Normal speed big bowl decanter centrifuge, model GNLW452C. It is a economic standard fixed speed centrifuge.

It is a middle speed decanter centrifuge for barite recovery. GN Solids Control also make big bowl high speed decanter centrifuge for waste management fine solids separation.

GN Solids Control is normally recommend client to choose VFD. As the hydraulic system FHD delivery time is much longer. And the hydraulic system is complex for maintenance. While VFD panel are mostly standard components, it is easy for maintenance and the cost is lower.
