GN Oil Sludge Treatment System for tank cleaning, refinery and drilling waste

GN Oil Sludge Treatment System is to use chemical to wash the oil sludge with heat to temperature of 60-70 C degree. After washing, the waste oil slurry is pumped to GN separation equipment to separate into oil, water and solids. The recycled water can be reused in the washing process, and the oil is clean enough to sell to the refinery company, the solids contain less than 2% oil which can be sent to biodegradation or thermal unit for final disposal if needed.

Below are some important points operators need to pay attention to while using GN oil sludge treatment system.

2020.03.12 Oil Sludge Treatment Equimpent

1. During shale shaker separation, clients should choose fine screens to remove particles up to 500 microns. It means all particles above 500 microns must be removed. It is to protection the centrifuges after shale shaker separation.

2. As disc centrifuge is easy to be blocked, the waste slurry enter into disc centrifuge must with solids less than 200 microns, and with less solids content. In this reason, 2-phase decanter centrifuge is used before disc centrifuge to further remove solids and reduce the solids content.

Why disc entrifuge is easy to be blocked, but clients still prefer to use it for water treatment and oil sludge treatment?

The reason is that, the clearance between the discs of the disc centrifuge is very small, which ensures that the separation is fine, and the solid particles can also be separated, so as to obtain a clearer liquid phase, which is the advantage of the disc centrifuge compared with other types of centrifuges, like decanter centrifuge.

However, the small disc gap requires more frequent manual cleaning and slag removal. If the manual cleaning and flushing of the flushing pump are not timely, the disc centrifuge is easy to be blocked during operation. This is the major disadvantages of the disc player. Operators can compare the advantages and disadvantages and make their decision to suit their job site situation.

3. The oil content in the solids which is discharged from decanter centrifuge is 1 ~ 3%.

4.15m3/h oil sludge treatment system adapts double deck shale shaker. The upper deck use steel frame screens with bigger opens. The bottom deck use fine API screen, API 40 is recommended for the bottom deck.

5. The oil content in the recovered water which is discharged from disc centrifuge is 1000 – 3000ppm. If clients want more clean water with less oil and soil, clients can add a water treatment unit after GN oil sludge separation system.

There are 2 sets high speed decanter centrifuge included in the project. The centrifuge model is GNLW363CG. It is a 14 inch bowl size 2-phase separation decanter centrifuge. GNLW363CG decanter centrifuge is most popular used in oil and gas drilling mud systems. The 14 inch decanter centrifuge can adapt middle speed for barite recovery, or high speed for fine solids separation and dewatering treatment. Beside fixed speed decanter centrifuge, GN Solids Control can also offer VFD control decanter centrifuge and FHD centrifuge.

2) There are Qty 4 fixed speed decanter centrifuge with high speed and lower speed for drilling mud treatment. It is the most hot sale centrifuge model from GN Solids Control: GNLW363CG. 5.5kw and 7.5kw screw pump is recommended to feed for the centrifuge. The electrical control of the feeding pump is inside the centrifuge control panel. As there must be interlock system between centrifuge and feeding pump to protect the centrifuge from overload.

3) Screw conveyor is a popular transfer equipment used at oil and gas drilling job site. It is widely used to collect drilling cuttings from solids control shaler shaker and mud cleaner. 1. Drilling mud treatment modular with horizontal mud tank: it includes 1 qty of drilling mud shale shaker, the model is GNZS594F. It is a 4-panel linear motion shale shaker to treat the drilling mud. 1 qty of middle speed decanter centrifuge, the model is GNLW452D. The middle speed decanter centrifuge is used to recover batonite. Besides the middle speed centrifuge, there is a high speed centrifuge GNLW363C. The high speed decanter centrifuge is used to recover fine solids and reduce mud weight. Operators can choose to use neither one of the centrifuge, or use both centrifuge.

2.Mud mixing modular with horizontal mud tanks: mud mixing pump 4 ea, mud mixing hopper 4 ea. The mixing pump type used in the liquid mud plant is centrifugal pump with dual sealing system. A set of Dewatering decanter Centrifuge, a Screw Press Dewatering Machine, and a Chemical Dosing Unit is designed and made for an environmental Company. The dewatering treatment will be used to treat waste slurry generated from industries.

The decanter centrifuge is a 2-phase centrifuge for liquid and solids separation. The chemical dosing system is a 3-compartment chemical dosing unit for automatic chemical mixing and dosing. There are agitators equipped on each tank compartment. It is mainly used for powder chemical mixing and dosing. Mostly, the powder chemical cannot be used immediately once it is mixed. As this reason, the 1st compartment is used to mixing chemicals. The 2nd compartment is waiting for use, normally, it takes around 20 ~ 30 minutes. After the chemical mixture is ready for use, it will flow to the 3rd compartment. There are chemical dosing pump equipped on the 3rd tank compartment. The ready chemical mixture will be feeding to decanter centrifuge.

2021.10.30 Dewatering Centrifuge

There are normally 3 types of chemicals used for waste slurry treatment which is with oil. The operators choose the right types based on the sludge material situation.
1) Sludge separating agent or surfactant: It is mainly used for oil sludge separation. It can improve the separation performance of the oil sludge
2) Demulsifier: remove the oil and water in the emulsified oil-water mixture
3) Flocculant (PAM) or coagulant (PAC) : for ultra fine solids separation.It can be used for both oil sludge with oil and without oil. If the operators already dosed demulsifier, they should consider and calculate carefully to see if they need to add PAM / PAC or not. As demulsifier is to make oil, water and solids separated. But PAM / PAC is for flocculation. PAM / PAC will reduce the demuisifier performance and to make the oil, water and soil mixture again.

In some projects, acid or alkali will be dosed as the first step to balance the PH. If operators need to add acid or alkali, it is normally added before other chemical agents. The suitable PH can improve separation performance in some degree, but not much.

2021.11.18 Shale Shaker

The mud cleaner in the shipment is GNZJ594F-3S16N for deep drilling. There are 4 nos of 10inch desander cone and 16 nos of 4 inch desilter cones included in the mud cleaner. Total handling capacity of the mud cleaner can be up to 1500GPM. It is a 3-in-1 combo type shale shaker C/W desander cleaner and desilter cleaner. The hydrocyclone unit is fixed to shale shaker deck by bolts and nuts. It is removable. In this condition, the combo type mud cleaner is capacity to be used as a normal type shale shaker.

Decanter centrifuge included in the shipment is GNLW454ET-VFD. It is a VFD centrifuge with high G force and big bowl for waste management to remove the fine solids. In order to ensure the pump can meet clients working situation and can solve their issues, before order, GN Solids Control sales engineers will send a questions list about vacuum pump. Clients are requested to answer as more as they can to let GN know more about their jobsite and their demands. Then GN engineer will see if the pump can suit the applications.

The pump is 100% driven by air. Clients also need to pay attention on the air supply, and compare which pump model they can have qualified air supplier. Clients can feed air from rig or from other air supplier, or by separate an air compressor.

Actually, GN Solids Control usually ask two typical questions to make sure the vacuum pump is suitable to use:
1.  Where does the material originally come from? If there are big stones or aggregates, the pump will not work.
2.  What’s the height between the suction port and material? Should be within 8 meters in order to work, otherwise need to lower the pump.  But the transfer length can up to 500m or 1000m.
