Most people may be not familiar with the Mud Cube technology, which is a technology developed by some company. Mud Cube technology is intended to replaces conventional shale shakers. There seems to be interest in the technology in many countries. The Mud Cube technology has its advantages. It can suit for some kind of drilling mud, but not suit for all kinds of drilling mud. And the cost and maintenance cost of mud cube is very high as the reason of its complicated design.

ViST Vacuum screen is developed by GN Solids Control. It is a vacuum screening unit using vacuum to recover usable drilling mud. It is not to replace traditional shale shaker. GN Screen Rubber plug for composite material screens

Compared with the traditional metal frame screen and the dip process, composite material shaker screens are with more advantages. Its lifetime is more than double, and the manufacturing process is more environment friendly. The metal frame shaker screen and the dip process shaker screen can only stock for 1 year or max. 2 years. They are easy to become aged. But the composite material are made from fiber glass plastic, which can last for long time, the composite screen can be stocked for 5 years, and the plastic material can be recycled.


Besides above advantages, GN Solids Control offers rubber sealing plugs to repair the composite material shaker screens. In many cases, there is only small area wire mesh broken, but the screen frame and most areas are in good condition, after repairing the screen with GN rubber sealing plug, the screen can last another some days.
Below is the procedures of how to repair screens with GN rubber sealing plugs.
Step 1: Cut the broken mesh square hole by knife, ensure the cut edge to be flat and smooth, the hole edge mesh burr should be no longer than 1.5mm.
Step 2: Install Rubber sealing plug as show as the photo, from screen front side to bottom side. Use hammer carefully to make sure the rubber plug insert into the screen hole completely, but not damage the screen wire mesh.
Step 3: Plug top surface should not higher than screen surface. When the rubber plus inserts to the screen frame properly, it should be 1 ~ 2 mm lower than the screen wire mesh surface.
As the screen frame designs are different, some screen models may have more than 1 kind of rubber plug. Below is the rubber plug quantity for most of the popular shale shaker screen models from GN Solids Control:
1.1 Only request 1 kind plug screen model:T585、TMD3、BVS1、BVS2

Recently, a client contacted GN Solids Control to inquire for a Fixation compact unit on the trailer. The client want the Cutting treatment plant to be a Mobile Solidification Unit. The Mobile Solidification Unit will content 2 modulars:

The client want the first modular includes following:
1) 1 set flat tank with 1 set agitator and 1 ea mud gun.
2) 1 slurry centrifugal pump to circulate on closed loop
3) 1 shale shaker on top of the tank to remove solids

The client want the second modular includes following items:
1) The shale shaker from the first modular will discharge solids into the second compartment.
2) 2 boxes (1 for cement and 1 for lime storage) dropping mix into one compartment for solidification
Based on clients request, GN Solids Control recommended below items and equipment

For skid #1 GN Solids Control recommends:
1) 1 ea slurry tank 15m³, dimension can be 5×2.2×2.15m. In this case, the tank can be put into container for international shipment.
2) 1 ea 4-panel shale shaker model GNZS594F-SHBF (http://www.gnsolidscontrol.com/shale-shaker)
3) 1 ea 11kw (15hp) mud agitator, model GNJBQ110-DD, with double payer impellers and tank stabilizer at tank bottom.
4) GN Solids Control company does not recommend mud gun, as there is no pump line in the slurry tank, there is no feed for the mud gun. It cannot be used.

Besides all above equipment, GN Solids Control recommend a transfer pump to feeding for the shale shaker, transfer the slurry from the tank to outside system. The exact pump power depends on client’s request, normally, a 11kw or 7.5kw slurry pump should be fine for the drilling cuttings treatment plant.

Equipment to treat Drilling cuttings offshore rigs

Recently, GN Solids Control got inquires from clients for the drilling cuttings treatment. Below is the client’s request.
They are proposing to use the cuttings blowing pump for drill cuttings transfer and disposal from an offshore jack up rig to a dedicated barge. The clients want to treat both OBM and WBM contaminated cuttings.

In addition to this, they will require some other equipment as follows:
Cuttings storage system: Bulk storage and retrieval systems 150bbls discharging at 30mt/hr
315hp, 1260cfm 150psi twin air compressor if available
100HP vacuum unit for spill containment (750 gal volume and 1600cfm flow)

GN Oil Sludge Treatment Decanter Centrifuge for Sale

GN Oil Sludge Treatment System is to use chemical to wash the oil sludge  with heat to temperature of 60-70 C degree. After washing the oil sludge  is pumped to  GN separation equipment to separate into oil, water and solids. The recycled water can be reused in the washing process which save a lot of cost to reduce the consumption of clean water, and the oil is clean enough to sell to the refinery company, the solids contain oil between 2%-3% which can be sent to biodegradation or thermal unit for final disposal.

The main components for oil sludge treatment include slurry transfer pump, pre-mixing slurry tank, primary shale shaker, decanter centrifuge, 3 phase disc vertical centrifuge, chemical dosing system, storage oil tank , storage water tank.

  • Slurry Transfer Pump: The vacuum pump can be used to pick oil sludge from the pit and feed to the pre-mixing and heating tank. At this stage, chemical dosing system will feed chemical the mixing tank to improve the separation of the oil water and solids.
  • A submersible is used to pump the slurry to feed to primary shale shaker for separation of coarse solids from the oil sludge.
  • The screen on the shale shaker normally use 2 mm opening screen, after separation by shale shaker, a second pump which is a screw pump will pick up the fluids with fine solids and feed to the decanter centrifuge. The decanter centrifuge is the core equipment for the oil sludge treatment.
  • After decanter centrifuge, the relatively clean fluids will be sent to a 3 phase disc centrifuge to be separated to water, oil and fine slurry.
  • Later on, the water can be used to washing and mixing the slurry, the recovery oil will be sent to the oil storage tank.

Many customers are interested in GN oil sludge separation systems. But the oily sludge separation is a new field to most companies. Question 1: What is the Process capacity of GN oily sludge separation unit?

The recycled water from 3-phase centrifuge is 500-1000PPM. It can be reused in the washing process.
The BS&W of the Recovery Oil from 3-phase centrifuge is 2-3%. It is clean enough to sell to the refinery company.
The solids discharged from centrifuge contain oil between 2%-5% which can be sent to biodegradation.

Question 3: What temperature does it operate at?
The tanks include pipelines for heating media can be hot steam or hot oil. Temperature recommended to 60-70 C degree.

Dewatering unit, is also named as chemical dosing system, is widely used in waste water treatment and oily sludge treatment. The right and suitable chemical dosing is the core point of for a better separation result of oily sludge separation. The function of a chemical dosing dewatering unit is too treat the liquids to make it easier for next-step equipment process or improve the separation performance.

The 4-tank Automatic chemical dosing system is an optimized design by GN Solids Control. The system is including 2 chemical dosing unit:

1) The first chemical dosing unit is a 3-tank automatic power Polymer Mixing System. The chemical mixing tanks are made from stainless steel for longer lifetime. The 3 tanks are connected to each other on the top, each tank is equipped with an agitator to help for mixing.

When the power Polymer is fed by the auto-auger feeding system though the stainless mixing hopper, the power polymer will be mixed in the 1rst compartment. When the 1rst compartment is full, the mixed chemical liquid will flow to the 2nd tank. When the 2nd tank is full, then it flow to the 3rd storage tank.  And then it can be used by decanter centrifuge or premixing tank, or high G drying shakers. The chemical dosing system is including Solenoid valve, Piping System, Flow Meter and PLC

Control System for automatic continues operation. Operators can set the time for polymer mixing and dosing. During the chemical liquid flows from the 1rst to the 3rd tank, the chemicals will be quality for used. Then from the 3rd tank, the quality liquid chemicals can be transferred for dosing.

2) The 4th tank is a stainless steel tank with agitator for another chemicals mixing and dosing, it can be used to mix coagulant for  treatment. The previous design is with a separate Polyethylene tank. GN Solids Control update the design to combined together with the PAM mixing system. In this case, the total design is more compact and the material standard is higher. And it looks much nice now.
